Nova Scotia Condolences

April 22, 2020

On behalf of Alberta’s 46,000 teachers, the Provincial Executive Council, and the Alberta Teachers’ Association, I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of those affected by this past weekend’s shooting tragedy in Nova Scotia.

We are deeply shocked and saddened by the senseless actions that took the lives of 22 innocent people. Such a massive loss will have a lasting and far-reaching impact on the tight-knit communities in that province.

Among the victims was elementary teacher Lisa McCully. As members of her profession, our thoughts of support go out to her colleagues, students and every person whose life she touched at Debert Elementary School, in Debert.

The impact of such a sudden and meaningless act will be felt not only in Nova Scotia but across the entire country for years to come. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they struggle to understand the events of this past weekend and begin the long healing process ahead.
